About Shining Dragonfly
Hello, I'm Cheryl Baxter, the creator of Shining Dragonfly. I create original textile art using the processes of applique and free motion embroidery on my sewing machine.
I first learned this sewing technique at a local textile group I joined after leaving secondary teaching after 20 years of teaching geography. I immediately began drawing my own designs, experimenting with different background materials, frames and threads. I started with birds, which I have always loved, before expanding into animals and flowers.

I decided to start my business in August 2017 and Shining Dragonfly was born. My logo shows a dragonfly flying across a new dawn; representing my new path in life. I have always found dragonflies to be beautiful and uplifting.

I am inspired by the beauty of the natural world and I'm fascinated by colour and pattern. I buy fabric everywhere I go and I embellish my work with beads, textile crayons and a textile medium. I would describe my style as honest and straightforward, but hopefully, there's beauty and quirkiness too. I love bold colour and design and have always been inspired by artists such as Rousseau and Gaudi.
I welcome private commissions as I value the importance of handmade, good quality gifts in these mass-produced times. I work closely with customers to ensure they are happy with my drawing, choice of fabric and time-scale to completion. I want to produce beautiful, eye-catching textile art that stands out in a room, but most of all, I want my customers to feel a connection to my work and to love it.
I hope you enjoy looking at my creations and please do get in touch if you would like to discuss anything at all.

Cheryl
